Raptor Surveys!

willparnell

Nothing like a birds eye view of a project site!

Sarah Parnell and Dr. Randy Simpson are performing raptor nesting surveys in South Texas this week via Hartland Helicopters out of the Rio Grande Valley, Texas.

Raptor nesting surveys are conducted to locate and document the presence of large “birds of prey” nest sites within a proposed wind energy project area. These studies aim to assess the pre-construction risk a project may have from turbine construction and operation, allowing developers to mitigate potential harm by adjusting turbine placement or implementing other conservation measures; where necessary. These actions address compliance with the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act as well as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Land Based Wind Energy Guidelines. These actions all fall in line with responsible development and wise use of our natural resources.
